Made for this moment

A Santa Barbara evening, in light.
At sky scale.

The waterfront, downtown’s character, and the city’s outdoor performance spaces offer a strong sense of place. We shape the creative around your guests while reviewing the site’s terrain, access, land manager, and aviation environment before confirming a production plan.

Starbound Labs designs the show and brings the performance together. Our Spectra drones, in-house firmware, and Starbound OS software connect the creative work with the fleet and team on the ground.

Rooted in Santa Barbara

A show with a sense of place.

Local inspiration. A story made for your audience.

A composition shaped by the waterfront

The harbor and the connection to Stearns Wharf can suggest a sequence with a flowing pace and a clear final image. Active boats, paths, roads, and public space are practical constraints. We assess the proposed operational area separately from the visual backdrop.

A concert setting among the hills

The Santa Barbara Bowl’s outdoor setting gives a potential finale a performance context. The terrain, trees, stage structures, audience angle, and current venue arrangements all need review. No availability, partnership, or launch space is implied by its inclusion.

A community gathering near the palms

Chase Palm Park provides a waterfront community-event reference. A show concept would require the right land-use permissions and a plan for public circulation, nearby activity, and crowd separation. The open lawn is a starting point for review, not an approved operational footprint.

A brand story after the reception

A company or conference gathering can build toward an approved logo, product outline, or shared message. We consider the route guests take outside, surrounding buildings, ambient light, and the distance to the performance area before developing the reveal.

A personal celebration with a coastal view

A wedding or anniversary can end with a meaningful detail rather than a complicated image. We review the actual property, neighbors, vegetation, and guest positions early. Wind and changing conditions are part of the contingency conversation, even when the backdrop looks calm.

Separate the city from the wider region

Santa Barbara Airport is a key consideration for relevant south-coast sites. Events extending inland or north have a different aviation picture, including Santa Ynez and, farther toward Lompoc, Vandenberg. Those wider-region facilities are not presented as local to every city venue.

The airspace is part of the plan

Airports, airspace
& FAA approvals.

The right starting point is your exact venue, launch location, show height, and date.

For each proposed show, we check current FAA maps, NOTAMs, temporary flight restrictions, and the complete flight area. Nearby airports and military facilities are part of that review, alongside other local aviation activity.

Santa Barbara Airport (SBA)

Santa Barbara / Goleta area, California

Official facility information

Review the actual show volume against current airspace and notices. Airport authorization and land-use approval for a coastal venue remain distinct.

Santa Ynez Airport (IZA)

Santa Ynez Valley, California · outside the immediate Santa Barbara coast

Official facility information

Relevant when event plans extend inland. Check current traffic, airspace, flight volume, and property permissions for that actual site.

Vandenberg Space Force Base

Lompoc-area coast, California · wider region

Official facility information

For plans extending north toward Lompoc, review launch-related notices, military restrictions, installation boundaries, and any necessary permissions. It is not a local airport for every Santa Barbara venue.

FAA airspace authorization

Where the flight area requires controlled-airspace authorization, we identify the applicable FAA process. LAANC may be available for eligible operations; airspace authorization for operations using an operational waiver follows the FAA’s designated process through FAADroneZone. An airport phone call is not a substitute for the required FAA authorization.

FAA authorization guidance

Stadiums & event restrictions

Qualifying sporting events can trigger temporary flight restrictions affecting stadiums and surrounding areas. We review the applicable notices and show timing; venue permission or a routine airspace authorization alone does not remove these restrictions.

Show operations & ground permissions

The show plan also determines operational waiver requirements, including a multiple-aircraft waiver where one pilot operates multiple drones. New operational waiver applications use the FAA’s Aviation Safety Hub. Venue and landowner permission, crowd separation, and any local event permits are handled alongside the aviation review.

California State Parks drone guidance

District rules, park management plans, commercial activity, and land-use permissions must be checked for the specific park. A park event reservation does not establish flight permission.

A few things you might be wondering

Planning a show
in Santa Barbara?

Can a harbor-facing venue support a show?

A harbor view can inspire the design, but the exact launch and performance areas need review. We assess public access, maritime activity, land management, terrain, airport airspace, current notices, and weather contingencies before confirming feasibility.

Can you plan a drone show at my Santa Barbara venue?

Start by sharing the address, event date, and any venue information you have. We review the proposed launch area, audience viewing position, access, surrounding airspace, and site conditions before confirming whether a show is feasible.

Do you work outside downtown Santa Barbara?

We can review event plans in Santa Barbara and surrounding communities, including Carpinteria, Goleta, Montecito. Each property needs its own assessment of access, audience positions, airspace, and flight space.

Can the show include our logo, names, or music?

Yes. We design formations, colors, animation, and choreography around your story. Tell us which brand elements, personal details, and music matter to the event so we can discuss the creative direction.

How much does an event in Santa Barbara cost?

Pricing depends on the number of drones, creative scope, event location, travel, and production requirements. Share your plans and we’ll prepare a quote for your event.

How far ahead should we get in touch?

Contact us as soon as you have a date and a possible venue. Early planning gives us time to review the location, develop the show, and coordinate the event requirements. Availability depends on your date and production needs.

What happens if the weather changes?

Weather is part of the planning and show-day review. We discuss operating conditions and contingency arrangements with you before the event; the final decision to fly depends on conditions on the day.
