Made for this moment

A San Francisco point of view.
At sky scale.

The city’s neighborhoods and bayfront settings offer strong creative references, but each outdoor location has a different practical view. We plan around the audience, the property manager, and the full flight area, with weather and surrounding activity part of the conversation from the start.

Starbound Labs designs the show and brings the performance together. Our Spectra drones, in-house firmware, and Starbound OS software connect the creative work with the fleet and team on the ground.

Your occasion sets the direction. We shape the creative around it.

Show imagery illustrates creative possibilities, rather than performances at specific San Francisco venues.

Rooted in San Francisco

A show with a sense of place.

Local inspiration. A story made for your audience.

A city told through its neighborhoods

The Mission, North Beach, and the wider city offer different cultural starting points. Share the symbols and stories that belong to your gathering. We can develop an original sequence with your organizers and artists, using images and music cleared for the intended purpose.

A product reveal beyond the screen

For a technology launch or conference reception, the clearest image may be a simple product silhouette or closing message. We develop the reveal with the audience’s viewing direction in mind. Dense buildings and the route to an outdoor viewing area shape whether the venue can support it.

A festival setting among the trees

Golden Gate Park hosts major performances and community events. Its trees, habitats, roads, and public users make site selection specific. A festival permit does not automatically allow a drone show, and the proposed launch and performance area needs independent review.

A bayfront fan celebration

Oracle Park provides a recognizable sports setting. A proposed show concept must account for the audience angle, nearby streets and water, the event schedule, and current stadium restrictions. We do not assume that being beside the bay creates a clear flight area.

A personal story with a shared view

For a wedding or private celebration, a name or meaningful symbol can be the final image. The venue’s actual outdoor arrangement matters more than a postcard backdrop. We discuss access, neighboring properties, guest positions, and alternatives if conditions change.

The bay changes the planning picture

Wind, fog, and different shoreline land managers require a realistic contingency plan. SFO lies outside the city in San Mateo County, while OAK is across the bay. National park lands and sensitive facilities need separate review from routine FAA airspace authorization.

Select a specific permitted event area. Trees, habitats, roads, public users, and park policies require independent flight-feasibility review.

Review the actual event application, nearby buildings, street activity, crowd layout, and a separate flight footprint; no operational space is assumed.

The airspace is part of the plan

Airports, airspace
& FAA approvals.

The right starting point is your exact venue, launch location, show height, and date.

For each proposed show, we check current FAA maps, NOTAMs, temporary flight restrictions, and the complete flight area. Nearby airports and military facilities are part of that review, alongside other local aviation activity.

San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

San Mateo County, California · south of San Francisco city limits

Official facility information

Assess current airspace and the complete proposed flight volume. The airport’s regional name should not be confused with its physical location or another airport’s authorization.

Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport (OAK)

Oakland, California · East Bay

Official facility information

The current airport name begins with Oakland; this is a separate facility from SFO. Review its current airspace and traffic for the actual flight location.

Moffett Federal Airfield

Mountain View / Sunnyvale, California · federal facility in the wider South Bay

Official facility information

Relevant to South Bay proposals, rather than every bayfront venue. Review federal-site restrictions, airspace, current notices, and any necessary permission for that location.

FAA airspace authorization

Where the flight area requires controlled-airspace authorization, we identify the applicable FAA process. LAANC may be available for eligible operations; airspace authorization for operations using an operational waiver follows the FAA’s designated process through FAADroneZone. An airport phone call is not a substitute for the required FAA authorization.

FAA authorization guidance

Stadiums & event restrictions

Qualifying sporting events can trigger temporary flight restrictions affecting stadiums and surrounding areas. We review the applicable notices and show timing; venue permission or a routine airspace authorization alone does not remove these restrictions.

FAA stadium guidance

Show operations & ground permissions

The show plan also determines operational waiver requirements, including a multiple-aircraft waiver where one pilot operates multiple drones. New operational waiver applications use the FAA’s Aviation Safety Hub. Venue and landowner permission, crowd separation, and any local event permits are handled alongside the aviation review.

FAA waiver guidance

National Park Service uncrewed aircraft guidance

National Park Service lands have separate launch, landing, and operation restrictions. Check the responsible park and current closures when an event involves federal park property.

Official planning guidance

California State Parks drone guidance

District rules, park management plans, commercial activity, and land-use permissions must be checked for the specific park. A park event reservation does not establish flight permission.

A few things you might be wondering

Planning a show
in San Francisco?

Can we use a Golden Gate or Presidio backdrop?

A backdrop is a creative reference, not a permission. National park and Presidio requirements, public access, wind, visibility, and the proposed flight footprint need separate assessment. We do not present parkland or bay water as an approved launch area.

Can you plan a drone show at my San Francisco venue?

Start by sharing the address, event date, and any venue information you have. We review the proposed launch area, audience viewing position, access, surrounding airspace, and site conditions before confirming whether a show is feasible.

Do you work outside downtown San Francisco?

We can review event plans in San Francisco and surrounding communities, including Oakland, San Jose, Daly City. Each property needs its own assessment of access, audience positions, airspace, and flight space.

Can the show include our logo, names, or music?

Yes. We design formations, colors, animation, and choreography around your story. Tell us which brand elements, personal details, and music matter to the event so we can discuss the creative direction.

How much does an event in San Francisco cost?

Pricing depends on the number of drones, creative scope, event location, travel, and production requirements. Share your plans and we’ll prepare a quote for your event.

How far ahead should we get in touch?

Contact us as soon as you have a date and a possible venue. Early planning gives us time to review the location, develop the show, and coordinate the event requirements. Availability depends on your date and production needs.

What happens if the weather changes?

Weather is part of the planning and show-day review. We discuss operating conditions and contingency arrangements with you before the event; the final decision to fly depends on conditions on the day.
