Made for this moment

A Long Beach story, above the harbor.
At sky scale.

The downtown waterfront connects event spaces with marinas, paths, and active harbor uses. We develop your show around that real setting, matching the story with an audience view and an operational footprint that can be reviewed with the right authorities.

Starbound Labs designs the show and brings the performance together. Our Spectra drones, in-house firmware, and Starbound OS software connect the creative work with the fleet and team on the ground.

Rooted in Long Beach

A show with a sense of place.

Local inspiration. A story made for your audience.

Let the harbor shape the movement

The waterfront’s ships, lights, and changing perspectives can inspire a sequence without becoming its assumed flight area. We work from your event’s message and chosen viewing direction. Maritime activity, public access, structures, and the exact land manager influence feasibility.

A civic finale on the waterfront

Marina Green is used for major permitted events, making it a useful starting point for discussion. A show concept still needs review of the selected lawn, paths, marina operations, audience separation, and current airspace. A special-event permit does not cover every aviation requirement.

A brand moment with a recognizable backdrop

For a conference reception or company milestone, a reveal can connect the brand to an evening by the water. We review the guest route, nearby buildings, ambient light, and separate production space before choosing the scale and orientation of the formations.

A crowd gathered for its own occasion

A motorsports, team, or festival gathering can bring a different audience arrangement to the shoreline. We develop the creative with approved graphics and check the actual event notices. A race or sports event’s restrictions must be assessed for that specific schedule and operation.

Keep the private celebration personal

For a wedding or family event, names and meaningful symbols can create a clear final moment. Waterfront venues need the same property-level review as inland sites: neighboring uses, guest positions, access, and flight separation. A dockside reception does not automatically provide a launch location.

Airport, military, and port reviews differ

Long Beach Airport is one part of the aviation environment; nearby Los Alamitos and other facilities may matter to a specific proposal. Port and land-use permissions have a separate role. We review current notices and sensitive areas before confirming an operation.

The airspace is part of the plan

Airports, airspace
& FAA approvals.

The right starting point is your exact venue, launch location, show height, and date.

For each proposed show, we check current FAA maps, NOTAMs, temporary flight restrictions, and the complete flight area. Nearby airports and military facilities are part of that review, alongside other local aviation activity.

Long Beach Airport / Daugherty Field (LGB)

Long Beach, California

Official facility information

Review the complete show volume, current airspace, traffic, and notices. Venue permission or distance from the runway does not establish flight authorization.

Joint Forces Training Base Los Alamitos

Los Alamitos, California · military installation

Official facility information

Review installation restrictions, military aviation activity, and any required military permission separately from civilian airspace authorization and ground consent.

John Wayne Airport (SNA)

Orange County, California · outside the city where noted

Official facility information

Include the airport in the review for relevant Orange County sites. Current airspace maps, flight volume, and the operation determine requirements.

FAA airspace authorization

Where the flight area requires controlled-airspace authorization, we identify the applicable FAA process. LAANC may be available for eligible operations; airspace authorization for operations using an operational waiver follows the FAA’s designated process through FAADroneZone. An airport phone call is not a substitute for the required FAA authorization.

FAA authorization guidance

Stadiums & event restrictions

Qualifying sporting events can trigger temporary flight restrictions affecting stadiums and surrounding areas. We review the applicable notices and show timing; venue permission or a routine airspace authorization alone does not remove these restrictions.

Show operations & ground permissions

The show plan also determines operational waiver requirements, including a multiple-aircraft waiver where one pilot operates multiple drones. New operational waiver applications use the FAA’s Aviation Safety Hub. Venue and landowner permission, crowd separation, and any local event permits are handled alongside the aviation review.

California State Parks drone guidance

District rules, park management plans, commercial activity, and land-use permissions must be checked for the specific park. A park event reservation does not establish flight permission.

A few things you might be wondering

Planning a show
in Long Beach?

Does a waterfront event permit authorize a show?

It addresses the event’s use of land, not every flight requirement. We separately assess controlled airspace, operational waivers, current notices, port and military restrictions where relevant, and the complete audience and flight layout.

Can you plan a drone show at my Long Beach venue?

Start by sharing the address, event date, and any venue information you have. We review the proposed launch area, audience viewing position, access, surrounding airspace, and site conditions before confirming whether a show is feasible.

Do you work outside downtown Long Beach?

We can review event plans in Long Beach and surrounding communities, including Los Angeles, Anaheim, Irvine. Each property needs its own assessment of access, audience positions, airspace, and flight space.

Can the show include our logo, names, or music?

Yes. We design formations, colors, animation, and choreography around your story. Tell us which brand elements, personal details, and music matter to the event so we can discuss the creative direction.

How much does an event in Long Beach cost?

Pricing depends on the number of drones, creative scope, event location, travel, and production requirements. Share your plans and we’ll prepare a quote for your event.

How far ahead should we get in touch?

Contact us as soon as you have a date and a possible venue. Early planning gives us time to review the location, develop the show, and coordinate the event requirements. Availability depends on your date and production needs.

What happens if the weather changes?

Weather is part of the planning and show-day review. We discuss operating conditions and contingency arrangements with you before the event; the final decision to fly depends on conditions on the day.
