Made for this moment

An Oakland story, in motion.
At sky scale.

Lake Merritt, the waterfront at Jack London Square, and Oakland’s neighborhood culture offer different perspectives for a show. We develop an original story with your team, then connect it with a specific viewing area and a practical site review.

Starbound Labs designs the show and brings the performance together. Our Spectra drones, in-house firmware, and Starbound OS software connect the creative work with the fleet and team on the ground.

Whatever brings you together.

Your occasion sets the direction. We shape the creative around it.

Show imagery illustrates creative possibilities, rather than performances at specific Oakland venues.

Rooted in Oakland

A show with a sense of place.

Local inspiration. A story made for your audience.

A creative brief with a local voice

Oakland’s neighborhoods carry their own music, art, and community histories. We ask which story belongs to your gathering and which artists or organizers should help shape it. Approved artwork and a clear visual thread can make the show feel connected to the audience.

A gathering beside Lake Merritt

The lakefront offers a distinctive setting, but paths, trees, wildlife, roads, and other users shape the operational questions. An amphitheater reservation would not establish a flight footprint. We review the audience direction and separate launch area with the appropriate land manager.

A waterfront reveal at Jack London Square

A company reception or product moment can draw on the waterfront’s changing light and movement. Maritime operations, public circulation, and adjacent businesses remain part of the site plan. The creative scale follows the viewing distance and the proposed operational space.

A crowd at the Coliseum complex

The Coliseum provides a large-event context without implying a current franchise affiliation or a commissioned performance. The actual event schedule, audience arrangement, nearby airport environment, and notices guide feasibility. A venue agreement and FAA authorization remain separate requirements.

A private celebration with a shared symbol

For a wedding or family milestone, a meaningful image can be more effective than a complicated sequence. Oakland properties vary in terrain, trees, nearby homes, and access. We begin with the full address and guest plan before developing a final production concept.

A bay view does not remove constraints

Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport and other East Bay facilities belong in site-specific review. Plans on or near the water also require attention to land management, public access, weather, and sensitive areas. We do not infer permission from an open-looking shoreline.

The airspace is part of the plan

Airports, airspace
& FAA approvals.

The right starting point is your exact venue, launch location, show height, and date.

For each proposed show, we check current FAA maps, NOTAMs, temporary flight restrictions, and the complete flight area. Nearby airports and military facilities are part of that review, alongside other local aviation activity.

Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport (OAK)

Oakland, California · East Bay

Official facility information

The current airport name begins with Oakland; this is a separate facility from SFO. Review its current airspace and traffic for the actual flight location.

Hayward Executive Airport (HWD)

Hayward, California · southeast East Bay

Official facility information

Relevant to proposals extending south of Oakland. Check the proposed flight location, height, current airspace, and notices for that actual operation.

Travis Air Force Base

Fairfield / Solano County, California · wider-region military consideration

Official facility information

Relevant only where the proposed location or operation extends toward its region or affected airspace. Do not assume it places the same requirements on every Oakland or Santa Rosa venue.

FAA airspace authorization

Where the flight area requires controlled-airspace authorization, we identify the applicable FAA process. LAANC may be available for eligible operations; airspace authorization for operations using an operational waiver follows the FAA’s designated process through FAADroneZone. An airport phone call is not a substitute for the required FAA authorization.

FAA authorization guidance

Stadiums & event restrictions

Qualifying sporting events can trigger temporary flight restrictions affecting stadiums and surrounding areas. We review the applicable notices and show timing; venue permission or a routine airspace authorization alone does not remove these restrictions.

FAA stadium guidance

Show operations & ground permissions

The show plan also determines operational waiver requirements, including a multiple-aircraft waiver where one pilot operates multiple drones. New operational waiver applications use the FAA’s Aviation Safety Hub. Venue and landowner permission, crowd separation, and any local event permits are handled alongside the aviation review.

California State Parks drone guidance

District rules, park management plans, commercial activity, and land-use permissions must be checked for the specific park. A park event reservation does not establish flight permission.

A few things you might be wondering

Planning a show
in Oakland?

Can a Lake Merritt event include an aerial finale?

Only after a site-specific review. We assess park permission, public circulation, wildlife, surrounding roads and buildings, airspace, and a separate flight footprint. The lake itself is not presented as an approved launch or performance area.

Can you plan a drone show at my Oakland venue?

Start by sharing the address, event date, and any venue information you have. We review the proposed launch area, audience viewing position, access, surrounding airspace, and site conditions before confirming whether a show is feasible.

Do you work outside downtown Oakland?

We can review event plans in Oakland and surrounding communities, including San Francisco, San Jose, Berkeley. Each property needs its own assessment of access, audience positions, airspace, and flight space.

Can the show include our logo, names, or music?

Yes. We design formations, colors, animation, and choreography around your story. Tell us which brand elements, personal details, and music matter to the event so we can discuss the creative direction.

How much does an event in Oakland cost?

Pricing depends on the number of drones, creative scope, event location, travel, and production requirements. Share your plans and we’ll prepare a quote for your event.

How far ahead should we get in touch?

Contact us as soon as you have a date and a possible venue. Early planning gives us time to review the location, develop the show, and coordinate the event requirements. Availability depends on your date and production needs.

What happens if the weather changes?

Weather is part of the planning and show-day review. We discuss operating conditions and contingency arrangements with you before the event; the final decision to fly depends on conditions on the day.
