Made for this moment

A Sacramento story, flowing into light.
At sky scale.

The river confluence, Cal Expo’s event grounds, and the connection between downtown and West Sacramento give each proposal a different setting. We start with the message and the audience’s view, then assess the exact property and complete operation.

Starbound Labs designs the show and brings the performance together. Our Spectra drones, in-house firmware, and Starbound OS software connect the creative work with the fleet and team on the ground.

Rooted in Sacramento

A show with a sense of place.

Local inspiration. A story made for your audience.

A story at the meeting of the rivers

Discovery Park sits where the American and Sacramento rivers meet. That geography can inspire a sequence about connection, movement, or a shared future. Public trails, water, trees, seasonal conditions, and the land manager’s requirements remain part of the operational review.

A finale that fits the festival grounds

Cal Expo offers several event settings with different layouts. A community festival or fairground gathering would need a show plan coordinated with the selected space, active events, temporary structures, access, and audience separation. A campus-wide venue name is not a flight-footprint approval.

A company message beyond the stage

For a government, association, or business gathering, a short visual story can carry a closing idea into the evening. We assess where guests can gather outside and how nearby buildings and lighting affect the view before selecting the formation scale.

A ballpark across the river

Sutter Health Park is in West Sacramento. A fan-event proposal needs the correct jurisdiction, venue schedule, current stadium notices, and a separate operational plan. We label its location clearly rather than treating every metro venue as being inside Sacramento city limits.

A private celebration with a river-city thread

A wedding or anniversary can use a simple personal symbol as the finale, with a river-inspired transition if it suits your story. The exact property, neighboring land, guest placement, and access determine feasibility. A water view does not establish permission to launch or operate.

Several airports share the regional picture

Sacramento International, Executive, Mather, and McClellan serve different operations. For plans extending north toward Beale, military and special-use restrictions also need review. We use the full flight volume and current notices rather than a fixed distance from any airport.

The airspace is part of the plan

Airports, airspace
& FAA approvals.

The right starting point is your exact venue, launch location, show height, and date.

For each proposed show, we check current FAA maps, NOTAMs, temporary flight restrictions, and the complete flight area. Nearby airports and military facilities are part of that review, alongside other local aviation activity.

Sacramento International Airport (SMF)

Sacramento County, California · northwest of downtown

Official facility information

Assess current controlled-airspace information and the full show volume. Airport proximity alone does not determine the applicable approval process.

Sacramento Executive Airport (SAC)

Sacramento, California · south city

Official facility information

A separate city-area airport relevant to southern proposals. Review aircraft activity, current airspace, requested altitude, and show operation.

Mather Airport (MHR)

Mather, California · east metro

Official facility information

Current civilian airport activity, including cargo operations, belongs in east-metro review. Do not infer present military restrictions solely from its former-base history.

McClellan Airfield (MCC)

McClellan Park, California · northeast metro

Official facility information

Include its current aviation activity and airspace in relevant proposals. A former military name is not evidence of the restrictions applicable to today’s operation.

Beale Air Force Base

Yuba County, California · outside the immediate Sacramento metro

Official facility information

A wider-region consideration for plans extending north. Military airspace, installation restrictions, and current notices need review for that location.

FAA airspace authorization

Where the flight area requires controlled-airspace authorization, we identify the applicable FAA process. LAANC may be available for eligible operations; airspace authorization for operations using an operational waiver follows the FAA’s designated process through FAADroneZone. An airport phone call is not a substitute for the required FAA authorization.

FAA authorization guidance

Stadiums & event restrictions

Qualifying sporting events can trigger temporary flight restrictions affecting stadiums and surrounding areas. We review the applicable notices and show timing; venue permission or a routine airspace authorization alone does not remove these restrictions.

FAA stadium guidance

Show operations & ground permissions

The show plan also determines operational waiver requirements, including a multiple-aircraft waiver where one pilot operates multiple drones. New operational waiver applications use the FAA’s Aviation Safety Hub. Venue and landowner permission, crowd separation, and any local event permits are handled alongside the aviation review.

FAA waiver guidance

California State Parks drone guidance

District rules, park management plans, commercial activity, and land-use permissions must be checked for the specific park. A park event reservation does not establish flight permission.

A few things you might be wondering

Planning a show
in Sacramento?

Is Sutter Health Park in Sacramento?

It is in West Sacramento, a separate city across the river. We review that venue under its actual location, including operator permission, audience layout, current stadium notices, and the full flight operation.

Can you plan a drone show at my Sacramento venue?

Start by sharing the address, event date, and any venue information you have. We review the proposed launch area, audience viewing position, access, surrounding airspace, and site conditions before confirming whether a show is feasible.

Do you work outside downtown Sacramento?

We can review event plans in Sacramento and surrounding communities, including Fairfield, West Sacramento, Davis. Each property needs its own assessment of access, audience positions, airspace, and flight space.

Can the show include our logo, names, or music?

Yes. We design formations, colors, animation, and choreography around your story. Tell us which brand elements, personal details, and music matter to the event so we can discuss the creative direction.

How much does an event in Sacramento cost?

Pricing depends on the number of drones, creative scope, event location, travel, and production requirements. Share your plans and we’ll prepare a quote for your event.

How far ahead should we get in touch?

Contact us as soon as you have a date and a possible venue. Early planning gives us time to review the location, develop the show, and coordinate the event requirements. Availability depends on your date and production needs.

What happens if the weather changes?

Weather is part of the planning and show-day review. We discuss operating conditions and contingency arrangements with you before the event; the final decision to fly depends on conditions on the day.
