Made for this moment

An idea with San Jose energy.
At sky scale.

Downtown’s murals and gathering places, the SoFA District, and the city’s sports venues give San Jose events different points of departure. We build a clear story around your brief while checking the airport environment and ground space early.

Starbound Labs designs the show and brings the performance together. Our Spectra drones, in-house firmware, and Starbound OS software connect the creative work with the fleet and team on the ground.

Whatever brings you together.

Your occasion sets the direction. We shape the creative around it.

Show imagery illustrates creative possibilities, rather than performances at specific San Jose venues.

Rooted in San Jose

A show with a sense of place.

Local inspiration. A story made for your audience.

Turn the idea into a readable image

For a technology milestone, start with what your team wants people to remember. A sequence can move from a small pattern into a product outline or closing mark. We plan the reveal for the viewing angle and distance your guests will actually have.

A downtown gathering with local color

The SoFA District and San Pedro Square suggest an event connected to art, music, and street life. We can carry those influences into a custom visual brief. Street access, building obstructions, neighbors, and a separate operational area still determine how the occasion can work.

A community finale near Discovery Meadow

Discovery Meadow is a downtown gathering space with the Guadalupe River corridor nearby. Trees, paths, cultural institutions, and other users shape its practical constraints. A proposed show would begin with operator and site review rather than assuming the lawn can be used for launch.

A sports setting beside an airport

PayPal Park is adjacent to San José Mineta International Airport, making aviation review an early design constraint. An Earthquakes or other fan-event concept would also need venue coordination, audience separation, and current notices. Booking the stadium does not establish flight authorization.

A personal milestone for your own group

For a wedding, reunion, or private celebration, an intimate symbol may be the strongest final formation. Share the property address, audience position, and desired timing first. We develop the creative scope around the available operating and viewing space.

Look beyond a single airport marker

SJC and Reid-Hillview serve different parts of the city’s aviation environment. Plans toward Mountain View also need review of Moffett Federal Airfield and federal-site restrictions. Current boundaries, notices, altitude, and the show operation determine the requirements.

Airports, airspace
& FAA approvals.

The right starting point is your exact venue, launch location, show height, and date.

For each proposed show, we check current FAA maps, NOTAMs, temporary flight restrictions, and the complete flight area. Nearby airports and military facilities are part of that review, alongside other local aviation activity.

San José Mineta International Airport (SJC)

San Jose, California · near downtown and PayPal Park

Official facility information

A central feasibility consideration for city proposals. Review the exact flight volume, requested height, notices, and operating requirements before developing a final production plan.

Reid-Hillview Airport of Santa Clara County (RHV)

East San Jose, California

Official facility information

A separate general aviation airport relevant to east-side proposals. Verify current activity and airspace for the event’s actual date and flight area.

Moffett Federal Airfield

Mountain View / Sunnyvale, California · federal facility in the wider South Bay

Official facility information

Relevant to South Bay proposals, rather than every bayfront venue. Review federal-site restrictions, airspace, current notices, and any necessary permission for that location.

FAA airspace authorization

Where the flight area requires controlled-airspace authorization, we identify the applicable FAA process. LAANC may be available for eligible operations; airspace authorization for operations using an operational waiver follows the FAA’s designated process through FAADroneZone. An airport phone call is not a substitute for the required FAA authorization.

FAA authorization guidance

Stadiums & event restrictions

Qualifying sporting events can trigger temporary flight restrictions affecting stadiums and surrounding areas. We review the applicable notices and show timing; venue permission or a routine airspace authorization alone does not remove these restrictions.

Show operations & ground permissions

The show plan also determines operational waiver requirements, including a multiple-aircraft waiver where one pilot operates multiple drones. New operational waiver applications use the FAA’s Aviation Safety Hub. Venue and landowner permission, crowd separation, and any local event permits are handled alongside the aviation review.

California State Parks drone guidance

District rules, park management plans, commercial activity, and land-use permissions must be checked for the specific park. A park event reservation does not establish flight permission.

A few things you might be wondering

Planning a show
in San Jose?

Is PayPal Park’s airport location important?

Yes. Its proximity to SJC makes the complete flight volume, altitude, date, and operational approvals early feasibility questions. Stadium permission and FAA authorization are separate, and neither is assumed from a venue listing.

Can you plan a drone show at my San Jose venue?

Start by sharing the address, event date, and any venue information you have. We review the proposed launch area, audience viewing position, access, surrounding airspace, and site conditions before confirming whether a show is feasible.

Do you work outside downtown San Jose?

We can review event plans in San Jose and surrounding communities, including San Francisco, Oakland, Santa Clara. Each property needs its own assessment of access, audience positions, airspace, and flight space.

Can the show include our logo, names, or music?

Yes. We design formations, colors, animation, and choreography around your story. Tell us which brand elements, personal details, and music matter to the event so we can discuss the creative direction.

How much does an event in San Jose cost?

Pricing depends on the number of drones, creative scope, event location, travel, and production requirements. Share your plans and we’ll prepare a quote for your event.

How far ahead should we get in touch?

Contact us as soon as you have a date and a possible venue. Early planning gives us time to review the location, develop the show, and coordinate the event requirements. Availability depends on your date and production needs.

What happens if the weather changes?

Weather is part of the planning and show-day review. We discuss operating conditions and contingency arrangements with you before the event; the final decision to fly depends on conditions on the day.
