Made for this moment

A river-town celebration.
At sky scale.

Texas State traditions and the San Marcos River offer different starting points for an event. We can shape a show around a reunion, community concert, company gathering, or wedding, with the audience’s view and the riverfront’s everyday uses considered from the outset.

Starbound Labs designs the show and brings the performance together. Our Spectra drones, in-house firmware, and Starbound OS software connect the creative work with the fleet and team on the ground.

Rooted in San Marcos

A show with a sense of place.

Local inspiration. A story made for your audience.

Maroon and gold with a personal ending

A Texas State alumni gathering can begin with Bobcat colors, then move into a class year or shared message. Any protected university marks need permission for use. Campus approval and applicable football-event restrictions are part of planning, alongside the creative work.

A river-inspired story without assuming a river flight

Flowing lines and changing color can echo the San Marcos River. The actual performance needs a suitable flight footprint, with swimmers, paddlers, paths, bankside trees, and habitat considered before a launch or viewing position is selected.

A musical finish at the park

Summer in the Park connects Plaza Park with local outdoor concerts. A separate community event can build its own music-led finale, timed with the stage and designed for a defined audience area. Park permission and production access still need individual review.

A milestone beyond the campus calendar

For a research gathering or company event, start with one idea worth sharing. We can develop a sequence from abstract movement into a symbol or brand, then assess the relationship between guests, surrounding buildings, and a separate launch parcel.

A wedding with a Hill Country view

A private celebration toward Wimberley or the edges of San Marcos may have a striking backdrop and limited usable land. Names, initials, or a date can anchor the finale, while tree cover, terrain, neighbors, and access shape feasibility.

Plan for several kinds of shared space

San Marcos Regional Airport, the busy I-35 corridor, university property, and public river access all belong in the early conversation. The proposed height, complete flight area, and event timing determine which aviation and ground permissions apply.

University football stadium

UFCU Stadium

San Marcos, Texas

Texas State’s football venue requires university permission and review of qualifying event restrictions. Seating, the stadium structure, guest circulation, and a separate launch footprint determine feasible viewing arrangements.

Riverfront stage & civic event park

San Marcos Plaza Park

San Marcos, Texas

A stage and riverfront trails share the site. Review the City’s rental rules, park access, trees, river users, and the exact performance footprint before proposing an aerial finale.

University riverfront park

Sewell Park

San Marcos, Texas

Texas State manages this riverfront space. Campus UAS review, recreation activity, trees, river access, and a flight area separated from visitors are essential to any proposal.

County riverfront parks & recreation

Five Mile Dam parks / Johnson and Vetter River Parks

Hays County near San Marcos, Texas

A wider-area setting along the Blanco River, distinct from downtown City parks. Confirm the responsible operator, current river conditions, event permission, trees, and suitable launch land.

The airspace is part of the plan

Airports, airspace
& FAA approvals.

The right starting point is your exact venue, launch location, show height, and date.

For each proposed show, we check current FAA maps, NOTAMs, temporary flight restrictions, and the complete flight area. Nearby airports and military facilities are part of that review, alongside other local aviation activity.

San Marcos Regional Airport

San Marcos

Official facility information

A towered airport with aircraft and flight-training activity. Check current controlled airspace, notices, and the exact launch and performance volume; contacting the tower is not a substitute for FAA authorization.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport

Austin · north of San Marcos, outside the city

Official facility information

Review current regional airspace for northern-area proposals and the requested height. A nearby-city label does not establish whether the proposed flight needs controlled-airspace authorization.

New Braunfels National Airport

New Braunfels · southwest of San Marcos

Official facility information

Include this airport when plans extend toward New Braunfels and the surrounding corridor. Review actual aircraft activity, current maps, and notices at the chosen site.

JBSA-Randolph / Seguin Auxiliary Airfield

Universal City and Seguin · wider region, outside San Marcos

Official facility information

Military training activity matters for proposals extending into that region. Current military airspace, installation restrictions, and notices are separate from civilian airspace authorization and venue permission.

FAA airspace authorization

Where the flight area requires controlled-airspace authorization, we identify the applicable FAA process. LAANC may be available for eligible operations; airspace authorization for operations using an operational waiver follows the FAA’s designated process through FAADroneZone. An airport phone call is not a substitute for the required FAA authorization.

FAA authorization guidance

Stadiums & event restrictions

Qualifying sporting events can trigger temporary flight restrictions affecting stadiums and surrounding areas. We review the applicable notices and show timing; venue permission or a routine airspace authorization alone does not remove these restrictions.

FAA stadium guidance

Show operations & ground permissions

The show plan also determines operational waiver requirements, including a multiple-aircraft waiver where one pilot operates multiple drones. New operational waiver applications use the FAA’s Aviation Safety Hub. Venue and landowner permission, crowd separation, and any local event permits are handled alongside the aviation review.

FAA waiver guidance

Texas State campus UAS review

Texas State requires campus drone operations to be approved through its safety and university police processes. This campus permission is separate from FAA authorization and the review of the show operation.

A few things you might be wondering

Planning a show
in San Marcos?

Can a drone show launch from a San Marcos river park?

A river view does not establish a launch site. The relevant park or university operator must review the proposal, while the flight plan addresses swimmers, paddlers, paths, trees, habitat, crowd separation, and applicable FAA requirements. Each property is assessed individually.

Can you plan a drone show at my San Marcos venue?

Start by sharing the address, event date, and any venue information you have. We review the proposed launch area, audience viewing position, access, surrounding airspace, and site conditions before confirming whether a show is feasible.

Do you work outside downtown San Marcos?

We welcome enquiries for San Marcos and the surrounding communities. Austin and New Braunfels have separate city guides. River parks, Texas State property, and county parks have different operators and permissions; include the exact site in your enquiry. Share the full venue address and event date so we can assess the actual site.

Can the show include our logo, names, or music?

Yes. We design formations, colors, animation, and choreography around your story. Tell us which brand elements, personal details, and music matter to the event so we can discuss the creative direction.

How much does an event in San Marcos cost?

Pricing depends on the number of drones, creative scope, event location, travel, and production requirements. Share your plans and we’ll prepare a quote for your event.

How far ahead should we get in touch?

Contact us as soon as you have a date and a possible venue. Early planning gives us time to review the location, develop the show, and coordinate the event requirements. Availability depends on your date and production needs.

What happens if the weather changes?

Weather is part of the planning and show-day review. We discuss operating conditions and contingency arrangements with you before the event; the final decision to fly depends on conditions on the day.
