Made for this moment

A West Texas rhythm.
At sky scale.

Texas Tech traditions and Lubbock’s live-music culture offer different ways to begin a show. We can build from your chosen colors, symbols, or message into a custom finale, with the event setting, audience view, and weather plan developed alongside the choreography.

Starbound Labs designs the show and brings the performance together. Our Spectra drones, in-house firmware, and Starbound OS software connect the creative work with the fleet and team on the ground.

Whatever brings you together.

Your occasion sets the direction. We shape the creative around it.

Show imagery illustrates creative possibilities, rather than performances at specific Lubbock venues.

Rooted in Lubbock

A show with a sense of place.

Local inspiration. A story made for your audience.

A Red Raider moment with your own message

Scarlet and black can introduce an alumni celebration before the sequence becomes specific to your class, group, or occasion. Texas Tech marks require appropriate approval for use, and a campus proposal needs university coordination alongside the aviation review.

Let the music set the pace

Buddy Holly’s legacy and the Depot Entertainment District are part of Lubbock’s musical identity. For a music-led event, we can build formations around a chosen track and a clear final image, discussing music use and playback with your production team.

A finale after an outdoor performance

The Moonlight Musicals Amphitheatre brings a stage and open-air audience into the Mackenzie Park setting. A proposed aerial finale needs to account for stage structures, tree lines, guest circulation, and the actual angle from which viewers would see the formations.

A company reveal for the South Plains

For an industry gathering, research milestone, or company anniversary, the show can move from a simple idea into a product outline or brand. We review the event’s occupied areas and any separate launch property before committing the concept to a performance plan.

Make the private celebration personal

A wedding in Lubbock or a family gathering toward Wolfforth might close with initials, a date, or a symbol your guests recognize. Confirm property boundaries, equipment access, neighboring activity, and a defined viewing area before treating a field as usable launch land.

Give the horizon a practical site plan

A wide view can help a formation read, but site conditions and aviation still govern feasibility. We check Lubbock’s airports, current notices, wind and contingency arrangements, and any research activity near the former Reese base as part of the location review.

Use these venues as starting points for your event plan. Each listing is a potential setting for individual review, with venue participation, permissions, launch and flight space, airspace, and show timing confirmed before a performance is agreed.

University stadium

Jones AT&T Stadium

Lubbock, Texas

Texas Tech’s football setting requires university coordination, qualifying stadium-restriction checks, and a defined launch footprint. Review rooflines, occupied seating, and concurrent campus activity.

Outdoor musical theatre

Moonlight Musicals Amphitheatre

Lubbock, Texas

An outdoor performance setting by Mackenzie Park. Stage cues, trees, audience orientation, operator permission, and a separate launch area determine whether an aerial component could fit.

Fair, rodeo & concert grounds

Panhandle–South Plains Fairgrounds

Lubbock, Texas

Review the exact event layout with the fairgrounds operator. Rides, livestock, temporary structures, occupied parking, and audience separation all influence the available flight footprint.

Public park & recreation landscape

Mackenzie Park

Lubbock, Texas

A City park with recreation uses including disc golf. Any event proposal needs a precise location, City permission, and review of public activity, tree cover, access, and separate flight space.

The airspace is part of the plan

Airports, airspace
& FAA approvals.

The right starting point is your exact venue, launch location, show height, and date.

For each proposed show, we check current FAA maps, NOTAMs, temporary flight restrictions, and the complete flight area. Nearby airports and military facilities are part of that review, alongside other local aviation activity.

Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport

North Lubbock

Official facility information

Check current controlled airspace, facility maps, aircraft activity, and notices for the complete proposed flight volume. A city address alone does not determine the applicable authorization process.

Lubbock Executive Airpark

South Lubbock

Official facility information

General-aviation activity matters for southern venues as well as the international airport. Review current FAA information and local traffic at the actual performance coordinates.

Lubbock Reese Redevelopment Authority property

West of Lubbock · former Reese Air Force Base

Official facility information

Former military property now managed by the redevelopment authority includes private airfield access and research uses. Confirm current operator restrictions and flight activity rather than treating it as an active Air Force base or an available launch site.

FAA airspace authorization

Where the flight area requires controlled-airspace authorization, we identify the applicable FAA process. LAANC may be available for eligible operations; airspace authorization for operations using an operational waiver follows the FAA’s designated process through FAADroneZone. An airport phone call is not a substitute for the required FAA authorization.

FAA authorization guidance

Stadiums & event restrictions

Qualifying sporting events can trigger temporary flight restrictions affecting stadiums and surrounding areas. We review the applicable notices and show timing; venue permission or a routine airspace authorization alone does not remove these restrictions.

FAA stadium guidance

Show operations & ground permissions

The show plan also determines operational waiver requirements, including a multiple-aircraft waiver where one pilot operates multiple drones. New operational waiver applications use the FAA’s Aviation Safety Hub. Venue and landowner permission, crowd separation, and any local event permits are handled alongside the aviation review.

FAA waiver guidance

Current Reese site identity

The operator retired the Reese Technology Center name in 2026 in favor of Lubbock Reese Redevelopment Authority. Confirm the current site contact, access, and security requirements for any proposal in that area.

Official planning guidance

Lubbock park permissions

Review the City’s current park-use and permit rules directly with Parks and Recreation. A model-aircraft permit, venue booking, FAA authorization, and permission for a professional event are different parts of the review.

A few things you might be wondering

Planning a show
in Lubbock?

What makes an outdoor Lubbock show site workable?

Begin with the full venue address and a possible launch parcel. We assess wind exposure, surface conditions, trees and structures, public access, nearby aircraft activity, and the audience’s view. A broad horizon alone does not establish a suitable or authorized flight area.

Can you plan a drone show at my Lubbock venue?

Start by sharing the address, event date, and any venue information you have. We review the proposed launch area, audience viewing position, access, surrounding airspace, and site conditions before confirming whether a show is feasible.

Do you work outside downtown Lubbock?

We welcome enquiries for Lubbock and the surrounding communities. Nearby South Plains communities are separate event locations. Open-looking land still needs a review of aircraft activity, wind exposure, access, and permission. Share the full venue address and event date so we can assess the actual site.

Can the show include our logo, names, or music?

Yes. We design formations, colors, animation, and choreography around your story. Tell us which brand elements, personal details, and music matter to the event so we can discuss the creative direction.

How much does an event in Lubbock cost?

Pricing depends on the number of drones, creative scope, event location, travel, and production requirements. Share your plans and we’ll prepare a quote for your event.

How far ahead should we get in touch?

Contact us as soon as you have a date and a possible venue. Early planning gives us time to review the location, develop the show, and coordinate the event requirements. Availability depends on your date and production needs.

What happens if the weather changes?

Weather is part of the planning and show-day review. We discuss operating conditions and contingency arrangements with you before the event; the final decision to fly depends on conditions on the day.
