Made for this moment

A Manchester rhythm. A shared finale.
At sky scale.

Castlefield, Ancoats and the Northern Quarter offer different creative references, while Heaton Park and the Etihad campus give organisers different event settings. We design an entertainment-led show around your audience and review the actual land, access and airspace. Greater Manchester venues outside the city remain separate locations.

Starbound Labs designs the show and brings the performance together. Our Spectra drones, in-house firmware, and Starbound OS software connect the creative work with the fleet and team on the ground.

Rooted in Manchester

A show with a sense of place.

Local inspiration. A story made for your audience.

Let the music carry the story

Manchester’s music culture can inspire the pacing of a finale: a simple opening, a growing visual rhythm and a shared closing shape. Your event’s soundtrack and rights need discussion, and participation in an existing city festival is never implied.

A Castlefield view needs a footprint

Castlefield Bowl brings outdoor concerts into a canal-side urban setting. Rail structures, water, buildings and public routes make the ground review central. A view of the water is not permission to use it as a launch or performance area.

Ancoats as a creative reference

The industrial character around Ancoats can inspire repeated lines and forms for a company or cultural gathering. The display must still be developed for a specific approved footprint; attractive streets and courtyards are not assumed launch locations.

A park finale at a different scale

Heaton Park is used for large organised events alongside regular public activity. A proposed show needs a practical event boundary, tree and wildlife review, production access and an audience position that remains clear after stages and other structures are installed.

Sport and hospitality at the Etihad

An Etihad-area celebration requires the stadium operator’s involvement, with rooflines, event security and crowd routes incorporated into planning. A sports-inspired sequence can use colour and movement; marks or communications require separate creative review.

Keep the wider region precise

Salford, Trafford and Stockport have their own venues, landowners and access patterns. A wedding or staff reception beyond central Manchester needs an address-specific assessment, including the relevant airport or Barton airspace and the outdoor space available to guests.

Park & outdoor festival setting

Heaton Park

Manchester, England

Discuss the precise event site and public access with park management. Trees, neighbouring activities and ground recovery affect a proposed production plan.

Outdoor concert amphitheatre

Castlefield Bowl

Manchester, England

Canals, railway structures and nearby buildings constrain both ground control and sightlines. A separate launch and performance footprint must be assessed.

Etihad Stadium

Manchester, England

Review the actual event configuration, rooflines, crowd movement and adjacent land with the operator. Stadium access is separate from aviation permissions.

The airspace is part of the plan

Airports, airspace
& CAA authorisations.

The right starting point is your exact venue, launch location, show height, and date.

We review current U.K. aeronautical information, NOTAMs, restricted airspace and aerodrome Flight Restriction Zones against the full flight area, altitude and date. Civilian and military activity, temporary restrictions and ground permissions each form part of the plan.

Manchester Airport

South Manchester

Official facility information

Use the airport’s current drone request process and official airspace information. Permission depends on the flight location and operation, not the event’s Manchester postal address.

Manchester Barton Aerodrome

Salford · outside Manchester city

Official facility information

The aerodrome, formerly marketed as City Airport, has its own FRZ permission process. It is a distinct consideration for western Greater Manchester proposals.

RAF Woodvale

Formby, Merseyside · wider region, outside Greater Manchester

Official facility information

A wider northwest military reference, not a Manchester airport. Review only when the proposed site or regional operating plan makes the activity relevant.

CAA operational authorisation

A swarm display needs an authorisation appropriate to the operation. We review the proposed fleet, flight volume, crowd separation and operating conditions against the applicable Specific Category requirements and current CAA swarm guidance.

CAA swarm guidance

Airspace & aerodrome permission

Operational authorisation and permission to use restricted airspace are separate. We check FRZ boundaries, other restrictions and the relevant aerodrome or air traffic permission process, including NATS where applicable. A NOTAM is a notice, not a flight permission.

NATS flight application guidance

Creative content & ground permissions

Landowner consent, council event requirements and the proposed display content need their own review. CAA guidance flags aerial advertising restrictions under section 82 of the Civil Aviation Act; operational authorisation does not settle those requirements.

CAA aerial advertising guidance

Heaton Park event planning

Start with the park’s event team and the specific space available for the proposed date. The flight review must include the full production footprint.

A few things you might be wondering

Planning a show
in Manchester?

Can a Manchester show take place beside a canal?

Only if the specific proposal is feasible. We review waterway activity, public towpaths, bridges, railways, nearby buildings and the land under the organiser’s control. Airport and aerodrome requirements are assessed independently from venue or landowner permission.

Can you plan a drone show at my Manchester venue?

Start by sharing the address, event date, and any venue information you have. We review the proposed launch area, audience viewing position, access, surrounding airspace, and site conditions before confirming whether a show is feasible.

Do you work outside central Manchester?

We welcome enquiries for Manchester and the surrounding area. Salford, Stockport and Trafford are distinct local authority areas. Liverpool is a separate city elsewhere in the northwest, not a Manchester neighbourhood. Share the venue address, date and audience layout so we can assess the specific proposal.

What creative content can a U.K. show include?

We can explore shapes, colour, movement and music for an entertainment-led display. The CAA highlights restrictions on aerial advertising and other communications under section 82 of the Civil Aviation Act. Logos, QR codes and written messages need particular review; an operational authorisation alone does not establish that the content is lawful.

How much does an event in Manchester cost?

Pricing depends on the number of drones, creative scope, event location, travel, and production requirements. Share your plans and we’ll prepare a quote for your event.

How far ahead should we get in touch?

Contact us as soon as you have a date and a possible venue. Early planning gives us time to review the location, develop the show, and coordinate the event requirements. Availability depends on your date and production needs.

What happens if the weather changes?

Weather is part of the planning and show-day review. We discuss operating conditions and contingency arrangements with you before the event; the final decision to fly depends on conditions on the day.
