Made for this moment

A city gathering. A story in colour.
At sky scale.

Leicester’s festival calendar, riverside parks and sports venues offer different settings for a shared finale. We develop an original entertainment sequence for your occasion, then connect its scale and viewing direction with the actual land available, the surrounding neighbourhood and the applicable CAA requirements.

Starbound Labs designs the show and brings the performance together. Our Spectra drones, in-house firmware, and Starbound OS software connect the creative work with the fleet and team on the ground.

Rooted in Leicester

A show with a sense of place.

Local inspiration. A story made for your audience.

A festival sequence with a clear ending

Leicester’s programme includes light, street-art and community celebrations. For your own festival, colour transitions and expressive shapes can create a shared ending to the evening. The proposed content and music rights need review; existing events are references, not claimed partnerships.

A riverside view at Abbey Park

Abbey Park sits beside the River Soar and includes historic remains and everyday recreation. A proposed show must work around trees, paths, water and protected fabric. A park booking alone does not establish a separated launch or performance area.

A Victoria Park audience

Victoria Park provides a different outdoor setting near cultural and university activity. An event plan needs to consider public movement, nearby homes and the position of temporary structures. The view from the actual guest area guides the creative scale.

Football hospitality at King Power Stadium

A football-related celebration requires operator involvement and a detailed audience plan. Rooflines, event security, crowd routes and surrounding land affect whether a display can be seen and staged. The stadium’s usual event permissions do not replace aviation review.

A company evening with a local rhythm

For a staff gathering or business anniversary, a sequence can move from a simple motif into a larger pattern of colour. We review proposed communications under U.K. rules while assessing how guests will move between an indoor reception and outdoor viewing.

Look beyond the city boundary

Leicester Airport at Stoughton and East Midlands Airport serve different aviation settings. Events toward Oadby or the wider county require their own airspace assessment. East Midlands publishes restrictions affecting night operations, so a possible display cannot rely on routine permission being available.

Abbey Park

Leicester, England

Review the River Soar, trees, public routes and historic remains. Aerial production needs a defined event boundary and separately assessed flight footprint.

Assess temporary event layouts, surrounding homes, access and separation from general park users with the council.

Coordinate with the operator on rooflines, security and crowd flows, and identify suitable controlled land rather than assume the stadium pitch is available.

The airspace is part of the plan

Airports, airspace
& CAA authorisations.

The right starting point is your exact venue, launch location, show height, and date.

We review current U.K. aeronautical information, NOTAMs, restricted airspace and aerodrome Flight Restriction Zones against the full flight area, altitude and date. Civilian and military activity, temporary restrictions and ground permissions each form part of the plan.

Leicester Airport

Stoughton, Leicestershire · outside Leicester city

Official facility information

An active general aviation airfield to include in the site review. Use current charts, notices and operator information for the proposed altitude and footprint.

East Midlands Airport

Castle Donington, Leicestershire · outside Leicester metro

Official facility information

The operator’s published drone policy says night flights are not normally permitted. A light-show proposal affecting its FRZ needs specific review and must not assume a routine permit is suitable.

RAF Wittering

Near Stamford, Cambridgeshire · wider region, outside Leicester metro

Official facility information

A wider-region military reference when the event plan extends east. Review relevant activity and restrictions separately from civilian airport permissions.

CAA operational authorisation

A swarm display needs an authorisation appropriate to the operation. We review the proposed fleet, flight volume, crowd separation and operating conditions against the applicable Specific Category requirements and current CAA swarm guidance.

CAA swarm guidance

Airspace & aerodrome permission

Operational authorisation and permission to use restricted airspace are separate. We check FRZ boundaries, other restrictions and the relevant aerodrome or air traffic permission process, including NATS where applicable. A NOTAM is a notice, not a flight permission.

NATS flight application guidance

Creative content & ground permissions

Landowner consent, council event requirements and the proposed display content need their own review. CAA guidance flags aerial advertising restrictions under section 82 of the Civil Aviation Act; operational authorisation does not settle those requirements.

East Midlands operating constraints

Check the current published policy and the proposed operation directly. Routine drone permit conditions must not be assumed to accommodate a night-time swarm display.

A few things you might be wondering

Planning a show
in Leicester?

Could an East Midlands Airport drone permit cover a light show?

Not automatically. The airport’s current published policy includes restrictions on night flights and event-related operations. The actual display and flight area need specific assessment, alongside the appropriate CAA operational authorisation and ground permissions.

Can you plan a drone show at my Leicester venue?

Start by sharing the address, event date, and any venue information you have. We review the proposed launch area, audience viewing position, access, surrounding airspace, and site conditions before confirming whether a show is feasible.

Do you work outside central Leicester?

We welcome enquiries for Leicester and the surrounding area. Oadby, Wigston, Loughborough and Hinckley are separate places in Leicestershire. Local authority requirements and airport relevance vary by address. Share the venue address, date and audience layout so we can assess the specific proposal.

What creative content can a U.K. show include?

We can explore shapes, colour, movement and music for an entertainment-led display. The CAA highlights restrictions on aerial advertising and other communications under section 82 of the Civil Aviation Act. Logos, QR codes and written messages need particular review; an operational authorisation alone does not establish that the content is lawful.

How much does an event in Leicester cost?

Pricing depends on the number of drones, creative scope, event location, travel, and production requirements. Share your plans and we’ll prepare a quote for your event.

How far ahead should we get in touch?

Contact us as soon as you have a date and a possible venue. Early planning gives us time to review the location, develop the show, and coordinate the event requirements. Availability depends on your date and production needs.

What happens if the weather changes?

Weather is part of the planning and show-day review. We discuss operating conditions and contingency arrangements with you before the event; the final decision to fly depends on conditions on the day.
