Made for this moment

Craft, colour and a city gathering.
At sky scale.

From Digbeth’s creative activity to the Jewellery Quarter and the civic spaces around Centenary Square, Birmingham offers many starting points for an original display. We connect that local character with the practical questions: where guests will watch, what land can be controlled and which airspace requirements apply.

Starbound Labs designs the show and brings the performance together. Our Spectra drones, in-house firmware, and Starbound OS software connect the creative work with the fleet and team on the ground.

Rooted in Birmingham

A show with a sense of place.

Local inspiration. A story made for your audience.

A pattern drawn from the Jewellery Quarter

The Jewellery Quarter’s makers offer a useful creative reference: small details becoming a larger whole. An entertainment sequence can use interlocking shapes and changing colour for an anniversary or community occasion, without assuming promotional marks can be flown.

A Digbeth evening with a musical arc

Digbeth First Friday brings art, late openings and music into a varied neighbourhood. For your own cultural gathering, we can build towards a visual finale. Railway infrastructure, rooflines and active streets must be assessed from the actual venue.

Civic audiences around Centenary Square

Birmingham publishes bookable city-centre spaces, including Centenary Square. A civic-event proposal needs clear boundaries between guests, pedestrians and production. The creative might draw on a shared rhythm, while the flight plan starts with the land available.

Sport beyond the running track

Alexander Stadium provides an athletics setting in Perry Park. A proposed sporting celebration needs operator coordination, a suitable view beyond the stands and separation from crowd movements. Stadium hire alone does not establish that an aerial display can take place.

A park celebration with room to recover

Cannon Hill Park offers green space close to cultural venues, but trees, water and other visitors remain part of the setting. A family festival or private celebration needs a defined event boundary and practical equipment access before the finale is designed.

A company milestone shaped as entertainment

For a Birmingham staff evening, a sequence inspired by craft and movement can end the event on a shared note. Proposed messaging is reviewed under U.K. content rules, while nearby properties and the chosen viewing direction guide the production plan.

Review the stadium bowl, Perry Park surroundings, audience routes and controlled launch land with the operator. Athletic-event permission is separate from aviation authorisation.

The council publishes bookable-space plans. Buildings, fountains, public access and neighbouring event operations may limit flight and ground-control options.

Park & cultural-event setting

Cannon Hill Park

Discuss the precise space with the park manager. Mature trees, lakes, public paths and adjacent cultural activity need consideration; an open lawn is not an approved launch site.

The airspace is part of the plan

Airports, airspace
& CAA authorisations.

The right starting point is your exact venue, launch location, show height, and date.

We review current U.K. aeronautical information, NOTAMs, restricted airspace and aerodrome Flight Restriction Zones against the full flight area, altitude and date. Civilian and military activity, temporary restrictions and ground permissions each form part of the plan.

Birmingham Airport

Solihull · outside Birmingham city

Official facility information

Use the airport’s current drone process and published airspace for the full operation. East Birmingham and Solihull proposals should not rely on a city-wide assumption about permission.

RAF Cosford

Shropshire · wider region, outside the Birmingham metro

Official facility information

A military airfield reference for proposals extending west of the conurbation. Review current military activity and restrictions only where relevant to the actual site.

CAA operational authorisation

A swarm display needs an authorisation appropriate to the operation. We review the proposed fleet, flight volume, crowd separation and operating conditions against the applicable Specific Category requirements and current CAA swarm guidance.

CAA swarm guidance

Airspace & aerodrome permission

Operational authorisation and permission to use restricted airspace are separate. We check FRZ boundaries, other restrictions and the relevant aerodrome or air traffic permission process, including NATS where applicable. A NOTAM is a notice, not a flight permission.

NATS flight application guidance

Creative content & ground permissions

Landowner consent, council event requirements and the proposed display content need their own review. CAA guidance flags aerial advertising restrictions under section 82 of the Civil Aviation Act; operational authorisation does not settle those requirements.

City-centre event spaces

Start with the council’s booking plans and event enquiry process; the aviation review is a separate part of the proposal.

A few things you might be wondering

Planning a show
in Birmingham?

Can a city-centre Birmingham event include a show?

The exact ground and flight footprint determine feasibility. A square booking or canal-side view does not provide a separated launch area. We review buildings, streets, public access, the performance height and relevant airport requirements before confirming an aerial proposal.

Can you plan a drone show at my Birmingham venue?

Start by sharing the address, event date, and any venue information you have. We review the proposed launch area, audience viewing position, access, surrounding airspace, and site conditions before confirming whether a show is feasible.

Do you work outside central Birmingham?

We welcome enquiries for Birmingham and the surrounding area. Solihull, Coventry and Wolverhampton are separate city or town settings; Sutton Coldfield is within Birmingham. Airspace, land control and access vary across the West Midlands. Share the venue address, date and audience layout so we can assess the specific proposal.

What creative content can a U.K. show include?

We can explore shapes, colour, movement and music for an entertainment-led display. The CAA highlights restrictions on aerial advertising and other communications under section 82 of the Civil Aviation Act. Logos, QR codes and written messages need particular review; an operational authorisation alone does not establish that the content is lawful.

How much does an event in Birmingham cost?

Pricing depends on the number of drones, creative scope, event location, travel, and production requirements. Share your plans and we’ll prepare a quote for your event.

How far ahead should we get in touch?

Contact us as soon as you have a date and a possible venue. Early planning gives us time to review the location, develop the show, and coordinate the event requirements. Availability depends on your date and production needs.

What happens if the weather changes?

Weather is part of the planning and show-day review. We discuss operating conditions and contingency arrangements with you before the event; the final decision to fly depends on conditions on the day.
