Made for this moment

A Dundee story with a Tay horizon.
At sky scale.

Dundee’s central waterfront, Slessor Gardens and neighbourhood parks provide different contexts for an event. We build an original entertainment sequence around your occasion and assess the exact flight area before confirming the production. Airport activity, the Tay, public access and changing terrain must fit the plan together.

Starbound Labs designs the show and brings the performance together. Our Spectra drones, in-house firmware, and Starbound OS software connect the creative work with the fleet and team on the ground.

Rooted in Dundee

A show with a sense of place.

Local inspiration. A story made for your audience.

A waterfront sequence with a clear direction

The Tay gives Dundee an expansive horizon for a creative brief. That view still needs a practical audience position and a controlled operating footprint. Water activity, wind exposure, transport routes and nearby structures are part of the review.

Slessor Gardens as a civic gathering

Slessor Gardens was designed as a multifunctional waterfront space for events. A proposed aerial component needs to work around its themed gardens, public routes and surrounding development. Event capacity does not establish flight feasibility.

A story about making and discovery

Slessor Gardens’ Discovery Walk and themed plots recognise contributions to science, society and local industries. An original display can use growth, connection and transformation as entertainment themes, while any communications or protected content receive separate review.

A park audience away from the centre

Camperdown Park offers a different landscape from the waterfront. Trees, wildlife, changing ground and everyday visitors affect possible production areas. A community or family occasion needs a defined event boundary and practical crew access.

Football hospitality around Tannadice

A sporting gathering at Tannadice has rooflines, crowd routes and surrounding homes to consider. The venue operator must be involved in any aerial proposal. A hospitality room or stadium booking does not provide an independent flight footprint.

Two sides of the Tay, separate aviation checks

Dundee Airport lies along the waterfront, while Leuchars Aerodrome is across the Tay in Fife. We assess the actual operation against both civilian and relevant military activity. Neither the river nor a council boundary removes the need for current airspace review.

The airspace is part of the plan

Airports, airspace
& CAA authorisations.

The right starting point is your exact venue, launch location, show height, and date.

We review current U.K. aeronautical information, NOTAMs, restricted airspace and aerodrome Flight Restriction Zones against the full flight area, altitude and date. Civilian and military activity, temporary restrictions and ground permissions each form part of the plan.

Dundee Airport

Riverside, Dundee

Official facility information

HIAL publishes current drone safety information and notification requirements. Review the entire waterfront flight volume and airport permission process separately from CAA operational authorisation.

Leuchars Aerodrome

Fife · across the Tay, outside Dundee

Official facility information

A military aerodrome to include where relevant to the proposed location, altitude and operation. Its restrictions and activity are distinct from Dundee Airport and ground permissions.

CAA operational authorisation

A swarm display needs an authorisation appropriate to the operation. We review the proposed fleet, flight volume, crowd separation and operating conditions against the applicable Specific Category requirements and current CAA swarm guidance.

CAA swarm guidance

Airspace & aerodrome permission

Operational authorisation and permission to use restricted airspace are separate. We check FRZ boundaries, other restrictions and the relevant aerodrome or air traffic permission process, including NATS where applicable. A NOTAM is a notice, not a flight permission.

NATS flight application guidance

Creative content & ground permissions

Landowner consent, council event requirements and the proposed display content need their own review. CAA guidance flags aerial advertising restrictions under section 82 of the Civil Aviation Act; operational authorisation does not settle those requirements.

Dundee park management

Council management rules govern public use of its parks and open spaces. Discuss the event and aerial production proposal with the appropriate manager.

A few things you might be wondering

Planning a show
in Dundee?

Could a Dundee waterfront event include a show over the Tay?

The full proposal needs assessment first. We review airport and military activity, the actual flight volume, shoreline access, vessels, wind and guest sightlines. A river view or event-space booking does not grant the ground control or aviation permissions needed for a display.

Can you plan a drone show at my Dundee venue?

Start by sharing the address, event date, and any venue information you have. We review the proposed launch area, audience viewing position, access, surrounding airspace, and site conditions before confirming whether a show is feasible.

Do you work outside central Dundee?

We welcome enquiries for Dundee and the surrounding area. Broughty Ferry is within Dundee; Monifieth, Newport-on-Tay and Perth are separate places. Newport-on-Tay is in Scotland and must not link to Newport in Wales. Share the venue address, date and audience layout so we can assess the specific proposal.

What creative content can a U.K. show include?

We can explore shapes, colour, movement and music for an entertainment-led display. The CAA highlights restrictions on aerial advertising and other communications under section 82 of the Civil Aviation Act. Logos, QR codes and written messages need particular review; an operational authorisation alone does not establish that the content is lawful.

How much does an event in Dundee cost?

Pricing depends on the number of drones, creative scope, event location, travel, and production requirements. Share your plans and we’ll prepare a quote for your event.

How far ahead should we get in touch?

Contact us as soon as you have a date and a possible venue. Early planning gives us time to review the location, develop the show, and coordinate the event requirements. Availability depends on your date and production needs.

What happens if the weather changes?

Weather is part of the planning and show-day review. We discuss operating conditions and contingency arrangements with you before the event; the final decision to fly depends on conditions on the day.
