Made for this moment

A story with a desert setting.
At sky scale.

Barrio Viejo’s historic streets, the university’s sports gatherings, and Tucson’s outdoor music settings suggest different ways to celebrate. We use those references as a starting point for your own creative brief, while the selected property, audience direction, nearby aviation, and operating conditions determine what can be proposed.

Starbound Labs designs the show and brings the performance together. Our Spectra drones, in-house firmware, and Starbound OS software connect the creative work with the fleet and team on the ground.

Rooted in Tucson

A show with a sense of place.

Local inspiration. A story made for your audience.

Build the brief with the neighborhood

Barrio Viejo’s adobe streets offer a setting with a strong sense of place. For an arts-led gathering, an image chosen with your collaborators could become a short visual story. Narrow streets, homes, overhead obstructions, and public movement make the viewing and flight areas separate planning questions.

Music that opens into another dimension

A concert in Reid Park could inspire a sequence that carries a final musical phrase into light. We discuss rights and timing with the producers, then review the stage, trees, lawn audience, and available operating space. An outdoor stage booking does not establish approval for an aerial finale.

A mountain outline with personal meaning

For a private reception toward the foothills, a mountain-inspired line could resolve into names or a meaningful symbol. We compose for the chosen audience direction rather than assuming every terrace has the same view. Sloping ground, neighboring property, aircraft activity, and desert weather shape the feasibility review.

A community story told with care

Tucson’s cultural gatherings include music, food, and remembrance traditions with different meanings to their participants. Your organizers should guide the symbols and tone. We build an original brief with authorized artwork and music, without implying an affiliation with an existing procession or festival.

An outdoor moment for the Wildcats

A university fan celebration can use approved colors and graphics to create a shared closing image. The venue calendar, crowd movement, flight footprint, and qualifying football restrictions matter alongside campus permission. The creative is developed for the proposed event rather than offered as a preapproved stadium add-on.

A conference evening beyond the ballroom

For a Tucson company gathering, the transition from dinner to an outdoor viewing area is part of the design. We review lighting, accessibility, nearby buildings, and the direction guests face before planning a product reveal. The launch and recovery area must remain distinct from the reception.

The airspace is part of the plan

Airports, airspace
& FAA approvals.

The right starting point is your exact venue, launch location, show height, and date.

For each proposed show, we check current FAA maps, NOTAMs, temporary flight restrictions, and the complete flight area. Nearby airports and military facilities are part of that review, alongside other local aviation activity.

Tucson International Airport (TUS)

South Tucson area

Official facility information

Review commercial, general aviation, and other aircraft activity against current maps and notices for the full proposed show volume.

Ryan Airfield (RYN)

Southwest of Tucson

Official facility information

A general aviation airport relevant to southwest-area proposals. Exact coordinates, performance height, and current airspace determine requirements.

Davis-Monthan Air Force Base

Tucson · military installation

Official facility information

The base publishes a no-drone policy. Installation restrictions and military flight activity require separate review from venue consent and civilian FAA processes.

FAA airspace authorization

Where the flight area requires controlled-airspace authorization, we identify the applicable FAA process. LAANC may be available for eligible operations; airspace authorization for operations using an operational waiver follows the FAA’s designated process through FAADroneZone. An airport phone call is not a substitute for the required FAA authorization.

FAA authorization guidance

Stadiums & event restrictions

Qualifying sporting events can trigger temporary flight restrictions affecting stadiums and surrounding areas. We review the applicable notices and show timing; venue permission or a routine airspace authorization alone does not remove these restrictions.

Show operations & ground permissions

The show plan also determines operational waiver requirements, including a multiple-aircraft waiver where one pilot operates multiple drones. New operational waiver applications use the FAA’s Aviation Safety Hub. Venue and landowner permission, crowd separation, and any local event permits are handled alongside the aviation review.

FAA waiver guidance

Tucson park and special-event applications

Review site use and any street or infrastructure impacts with the city and venue operator. These permissions do not authorize aircraft operations.

A few things you might be wondering

Planning a show
in Tucson?

Can an open-desert venue outside Tucson host a show?

Possibly, after reviewing the exact property. Land ownership, tribal or federal authority, terrain, access, public trails, nearby airfields, and military restrictions can all matter. A mountain view is a creative backdrop, not evidence of an approved flight area.

Can you plan a drone show at my Tucson venue?

Start by sharing the address, event date, and any venue information you have. We review the proposed launch area, audience viewing position, access, surrounding airspace, and site conditions before confirming whether a show is feasible.

Do you work outside downtown Tucson?

We welcome enquiries for Tucson and surrounding communities including Oro Valley, Marana, South Tucson, Sahuarita, Vail. Every proposed property needs an individual site and aviation review.

Can the show include our logo, names, or music?

Yes. We design formations, colors, animation, and choreography around your story. Tell us which brand elements, personal details, and music matter to the event so we can discuss the creative direction.

How much does an event in Tucson cost?

Pricing depends on the number of drones, creative scope, event location, travel, and production requirements. Share your plans and we’ll prepare a quote for your event.

How far ahead should we get in touch?

Contact us as soon as you have a date and a possible venue. Early planning gives us time to review the location, develop the show, and coordinate the event requirements. Availability depends on your date and production needs.

What happens if the weather changes?

Weather is part of the planning and show-day review. We discuss operating conditions and contingency arrangements with you before the event; the final decision to fly depends on conditions on the day.
