Made for this moment

A story framed by the Mesilla Valley.
At sky scale.

Las Cruces sits between the Organ Mountains and the Rio Grande, with a downtown plaza, university gatherings, and nearby Mesilla offering different event settings. We start with your hosts and audience, then develop the creative and ground plan together. The exact property, terrain, land manager, and military airspace environment determine feasibility.

Starbound Labs designs the show and brings the performance together. Our Spectra drones, in-house firmware, and Starbound OS software connect the creative work with the fleet and team on the ground.

Rooted in Las Cruces

A show with a sense of place.

Local inspiration. A story made for your audience.

A plaza story led by the community

Downtown Las Cruces brings markets, music, and community events into a shared public setting. A sequence could grow from a locally chosen motif into your closing message. We review buildings, trees, public routes, lighting, and a separate aircraft area with the event organizers before designing for the plaza audience.

Let the Organ Mountains inform the composition

The Organ Mountains provide a recognizable outline for an original creative brief. A mountain-inspired shape can resolve into names, a date, or a civic message at a separately assessed venue. A scenic view does not grant access to federal land or establish that nearby restricted airspace is available.

A moment for the Aggie crowd

An NM State celebration can build around approved colors and imagery, with the actual venue and event schedule driving the planning review. Football gatherings require review of qualifying stadium restrictions. Campus permission, the launch footprint, audience orientation, and current airspace each need to fit the proposed performance.

Music that carries beyond the lawn

A Young Park concert offers a different audience arrangement from a downtown plaza event. We discuss the soundtrack and final cue with your producers, then assess trees, water, public access, and stage sightlines. The goal is a clear shared view with an operating area kept separate from the gathering.

A company milestone in the valley

For a Las Cruces conference reception or business launch, the reveal can connect a technical idea to an image everyone can read. We review outdoor access, neighboring properties, and the viewing direction early. The airport and military review depends on the precise property rather than the city name alone.

A private celebration toward Mesilla

A wedding or family event in nearby Mesilla can tell a personal story with a quiet final image. We identify the actual municipality and property operator, then review access, trees, neighboring land, and usable ground. The valley setting informs the creative while permissions and aviation constraints are assessed separately.

The airspace is part of the plan

Airports, airspace
& FAA approvals.

The right starting point is your exact venue, launch location, show height, and date.

For each proposed show, we check current FAA maps, NOTAMs, temporary flight restrictions, and the complete flight area. Nearby airports and military facilities are part of that review, alongside other local aviation activity.

Las Cruces International Airport (LRU)

West of downtown Las Cruces

Official facility information

Review the actual show coordinates, full flight volume, current notices, and general aviation activity before determining authorization requirements.

White Sands Missile Range

East and northeast of Las Cruces · military installation and restricted airspace

Official facility information

The range publishes drone restrictions. Review current restricted-area boundaries and notices separately from event-site and civilian airspace permissions.

El Paso International Airport (ELP)

El Paso, Texas · wider region, outside Las Cruces metro

Official facility information

Relevant when a proposal extends southeast toward the state line and El Paso. Check the precise location; do not generalize El Paso airspace to all Las Cruces venues.

FAA airspace authorization

Where the flight area requires controlled-airspace authorization, we identify the applicable FAA process. LAANC may be available for eligible operations; airspace authorization for operations using an operational waiver follows the FAA’s designated process through FAADroneZone. An airport phone call is not a substitute for the required FAA authorization.

FAA authorization guidance

Stadiums & event restrictions

Qualifying sporting events can trigger temporary flight restrictions affecting stadiums and surrounding areas. We review the applicable notices and show timing; venue permission or a routine airspace authorization alone does not remove these restrictions.

Show operations & ground permissions

The show plan also determines operational waiver requirements, including a multiple-aircraft waiver where one pilot operates multiple drones. New operational waiver applications use the FAA’s Aviation Safety Hub. Venue and landowner permission, crowd separation, and any local event permits are handled alongside the aviation review.

Las Cruces park and facility use

Confirm the actual facility operator and applicable event-use process. A city reservation does not cover nearby federal, tribal, university, or private land.

Official planning guidance

White Sands operating restrictions

Current military notices and restricted airspace must be checked for the complete proposed operation. A scenic mountain venue is not an exemption.

Mesilla is a separate municipality. Federal and tribal lands, river corridors, international-border considerations farther south, and White Sands restrictions require location-specific review.

A few things you might be wondering

Planning a show
in Las Cruces?

Can a show use the Organ Mountains as a backdrop?

The mountains can inform the viewing direction and creative design at a suitable property. We still need to assess terrain, land ownership, audience access, nearby aviation, and current White Sands restrictions. A view toward the mountains does not establish permission to operate on or over them.

Can you plan a drone show at my Las Cruces venue?

Start by sharing the address, event date, and any venue information you have. We review the proposed launch area, audience viewing position, access, surrounding airspace, and site conditions before confirming whether a show is feasible.

Do you work outside downtown Las Cruces?

We welcome enquiries for Las Cruces and surrounding communities including Mesilla, Doña Ana, Mesilla Park, Radium Springs, Anthony. Every proposed property needs an individual site and aviation review.

Can the show include our logo, names, or music?

Yes. We design formations, colors, animation, and choreography around your story. Tell us which brand elements, personal details, and music matter to the event so we can discuss the creative direction.

How much does an event in Las Cruces cost?

Pricing depends on the number of drones, creative scope, event location, travel, and production requirements. Share your plans and we’ll prepare a quote for your event.

How far ahead should we get in touch?

Contact us as soon as you have a date and a possible venue. Early planning gives us time to review the location, develop the show, and coordinate the event requirements. Availability depends on your date and production needs.

What happens if the weather changes?

Weather is part of the planning and show-day review. We discuss operating conditions and contingency arrangements with you before the event; the final decision to fly depends on conditions on the day.
