Made for this moment

A Columbia story.
At sky scale.

A Mizzou reunion, downtown business celebration, and lakeside wedding need different creative approaches. We work from your occasion’s people, music, and message, shaping formations for a defined viewing area while the venue, flight footprint, and permissions receive their own review.

Starbound Labs designs the show and brings the performance together. Our Spectra drones, in-house firmware, and Starbound OS software connect the creative work with the fleet and team on the ground.

Rooted in Columbia

A show with a sense of place.

Local inspiration. A story made for your audience.

A black-and-gold reunion with a personal ending

Mizzou’s Columns and Jesse Hall can offer visual starting points for a former-student gathering. A class date or shared message can make the finale specific to your group. University marks and campus use need the appropriate permissions; a recognizable landmark is not an approved launch site.

Let the arts district set the rhythm

The North Village Arts District and downtown District suggest different textures for a Columbia celebration. A music-led sequence can begin with abstract motion and develop into a readable closing image, with playback, music use, street activity, and audience direction discussed early.

A finale that fits the hillside

Stephens Lake Amphitheater places an outdoor stage below a grassy audience bowl. A proposed show must be designed for the actual viewing angle and reviewed around trees, trails, the lake, and other park users. A scenic backdrop alone does not establish suitable flight space.

A reveal for a new idea

For a company anniversary, donor reception, or research milestone, start with the idea guests should remember. We can translate a product or symbol into light while assessing downtown rooflines, occupied areas, and the relationship between guests and a separate launch parcel.

A private celebration beyond campus

For a wedding in Columbia or a gathering toward Ashland, a meaningful name, date, or motif can be the final formation. Property access, tree lines, slopes, neighboring homes, and the guest viewing position shape the practical plan before a performance is confirmed.

The event-date layout matters

Memorial Stadium has undergone a major renovation, making current operator plans more useful than an old photograph. For stadium and other Columbia proposals, we review the event’s actual layout alongside Columbia Regional Airport, current notices, show height, and the complete flight volume.

University football stadium

Memorial Stadium / Faurot Field

Columbia, Missouri

Use the current post-renovation event layout. University permission, qualifying football restrictions, spectator separation, structures, and a distinct launch footprint require individual review.

Outdoor theatre & festival setting

Stephens Lake Amphitheater

Columbia, Missouri

The hillside audience bowl, stage, lake, trees, and public trails influence sightlines and separation. City rental permission and flight feasibility are assessed independently.

Flat Branch outdoor amphitheater

Columbia, Missouri

The park’s tiered seating and sprayground area share space with everyday public use. Review downtown buildings, access, trees, City permission, and a separately suitable flight area.

Rose Music Hall / Rose Park

Columbia, Missouri

Discuss an outdoor component directly with the operator. Surrounding streets, trees, adjacent properties, audience movement, and separate launch land determine whether a concept can fit.

The airspace is part of the plan

Airports, airspace
& FAA approvals.

The right starting point is your exact venue, launch location, show height, and date.

For each proposed show, we check current FAA maps, NOTAMs, temporary flight restrictions, and the complete flight area. Nearby airports and military facilities are part of that review, alongside other local aviation activity.

Columbia Regional Airport

Columbia area · south of the central city

Official facility information

Review controlled airspace and current notices at the actual proposed site and altitude. A downtown or rural venue name alone does not establish which authorization is required.

Jefferson City Memorial Airport

Jefferson City area · outside Columbia

Official facility information

A wider-region consideration for event plans extending toward the capital and Missouri River. Check aircraft activity and current airspace for that location rather than applying one rule to all central Missouri venues.

Whiteman Air Force Base

Knob Noster, Missouri · wider region west of Columbia

Official facility information

Relevant when plans extend toward the installation and its training environment, not as a blanket constraint on Columbia. Military airspace and installation restrictions require separate review.

FAA airspace authorization

Where the flight area requires controlled-airspace authorization, we identify the applicable FAA process. LAANC may be available for eligible operations; airspace authorization for operations using an operational waiver follows the FAA’s designated process through FAADroneZone. An airport phone call is not a substitute for the required FAA authorization.

FAA authorization guidance

Stadiums & event restrictions

Qualifying sporting events can trigger temporary flight restrictions affecting stadiums and surrounding areas. We review the applicable notices and show timing; venue permission or a routine airspace authorization alone does not remove these restrictions.

FAA stadium guidance

Show operations & ground permissions

The show plan also determines operational waiver requirements, including a multiple-aircraft waiver where one pilot operates multiple drones. New operational waiver applications use the FAA’s Aviation Safety Hub. Venue and landowner permission, crowd separation, and any local event permits are handled alongside the aviation review.

Mizzou campus UAS review

The university distinguishes main-campus UAS review from research-farm and Extension procedures. Confirm the correct university process for the actual property alongside FAA and event permissions.

A few things you might be wondering

Planning a show
in Columbia?

Does a Mizzou event booking include drone permission?

No. University of Missouri UAS approval is separate from a venue reservation, FAA airspace authorization, operational waivers, and any qualifying stadium-event restrictions. Share your campus contact, event date, viewing area, and proposed flight location before developing the show plan.

Can you plan a drone show at my Columbia venue?

Start by sharing the address, event date, and any venue information you have. We review the proposed launch area, audience viewing position, access, surrounding airspace, and site conditions before confirming whether a show is feasible.

Do you work outside downtown Columbia?

We welcome enquiries for Columbia and surrounding communities. Jefferson City, Fulton, and the surrounding communities are separate event locations. University property, City parks, and private venues have different operators and permissions. Send the venue address and event date so we can assess the actual setting.

Can the show include our logo, names, or music?

Yes. We design formations, colors, animation, and choreography around your story. Tell us which brand elements, personal details, and music matter to the event so we can discuss the creative direction.

How much does an event in Columbia cost?

Pricing depends on the number of drones, creative scope, event location, travel, and production requirements. Share your plans and we’ll prepare a quote for your event.

How far ahead should we get in touch?

Contact us as soon as you have a date and a possible venue. Early planning gives us time to review the location, develop the show, and coordinate the event requirements. Availability depends on your date and production needs.

What happens if the weather changes?

Weather is part of the planning and show-day review. We discuss operating conditions and contingency arrangements with you before the event; the final decision to fly depends on conditions on the day.
