Made for this moment

Welsh character. Shared in light.
At sky scale.

Cardiff brings together the Bay, the city centre’s arcades, rugby occasions and the green spaces beside the castle. Those references can inspire the creative without assuming any landmark is a launch site. We start with your guests, your event and the land available for a safe performance.

Starbound Labs designs the show and brings the performance together. Our Spectra drones, in-house firmware, and Starbound OS software connect the creative work with the fleet and team on the ground.

Rooted in Cardiff

A show with a sense of place.

Local inspiration. A story made for your audience.

A Bay-inspired visual sequence

Cardiff Harbour Authority manages a waterfront with both visitor activity and navigation needs. Water, reflection and movement offer a creative starting point for your own celebration. The performance plan must account for boats, public routes and the actual land controlled by the organiser.

A Welsh welcome without a crowded message

Colour, rhythm and an expressive visual motif can give a Cardiff gathering a sense of place. Discuss the audience and occasion with us before choosing the final content. U.K. aerial advertising and communication restrictions mean written messages and promotional designs need particular review.

Rugby energy in the city centre

Principality Stadium gives Cardiff sports occasions a strong focal point. A separate hospitality or supporter celebration can draw on the anticipation of a match day. Roof position, street movements, security and the approved flight area matter more than the stadium’s prominence in a photograph.

A park finale with the trees in mind

Bute Park hosts varied community and cultural events, with distinct spaces including Coopers Field and Blackweir. A festival concept needs careful coordination around its tree collection, ground conditions and public access. Park hire and flight feasibility must be considered together.

A story drawn from the arcades

Cardiff’s Victorian and Edwardian arcades connect independent shops, food and music. Their pattern and rhythm can inspire an entertainment sequence for a business-community gathering. The arcades themselves are enclosed streets, so an outdoor performance would need a separately assessed setting.

A personal celebration beyond the centre

For weddings and family milestones toward Penarth or the Vale, the landscape can become part of the guest experience. Coastal exposure, property boundaries and nearby aviation may affect the plan. A defined viewing direction and a suitable controlled launch area are early requirements.

Rugby stadium & major event venue

Principality Stadium

Cardiff, Wales

The retractable roof and surrounding city streets make viewing and flight-space assessment essential. Aerial proposals need operator agreement, event security coordination and appropriate airspace permissions.

Park festival & civic event grounds

Coopers Field, Bute Park

Cardiff, Wales

An established event space with specific park guidance. Review tree protection, ground recovery, public access, equipment routes and a separate flight footprint before treating it as a candidate.

Outdoor event fields & sports space

Blackweir Fields, Bute Park

Cardiff, Wales

Discuss the precise event boundary and existing sports use with park management. Trees, river edges, public paths and emergency access can constrain launch and audience arrangements.

Cardiff Castle

Cardiff, Wales

The castle offers function spaces, but indoor hire does not establish outdoor viewing or launch rights. Heritage fabric, walls, visitor access and any use of adjacent Bute Park need separate operator review.

The airspace is part of the plan

Airports, airspace
& CAA authorisations.

The right starting point is your exact venue, launch location, show height, and date.

We review current U.K. aeronautical information, NOTAMs, restricted airspace and aerodrome Flight Restriction Zones against the full flight area, altitude and date. Civilian and military activity, temporary restrictions and ground permissions each form part of the plan.

Cardiff Airport

Rhoose, Vale of Glamorgan · outside Cardiff

Official facility information

Relevant to proposals west of the city and along the Vale. Review current airspace and the NATS process for the actual flight location; do not apply one clearance assumption to all Cardiff venues.

St Athan Aerodrome

Bro Tathan, Vale of Glamorgan · outside Cardiff

Official facility information

A separate aerodrome west of Cardiff Airport. Review its current restriction zone and published operational information when the proposed setting extends toward St Athan or the western Vale.

MOD St Athan

St Athan, Vale of Glamorgan · outside Cardiff

Official facility information

The military installation is a distinct consideration from the aerodrome permission process. Review relevant security restrictions and military requirements for the proposed site.

CAA operational authorisation

A swarm display needs an authorisation appropriate to the operation. We review the proposed fleet, flight volume, crowd separation and operating conditions against the applicable Specific Category requirements and current CAA swarm guidance.

CAA swarm guidance

Airspace & aerodrome permission

Operational authorisation and permission to use restricted airspace are separate. We check FRZ boundaries, other restrictions and the relevant aerodrome or air traffic permission process, including NATS where applicable. A NOTAM is a notice, not a flight permission.

NATS flight application guidance

Creative content & ground permissions

Landowner consent, council event requirements and the proposed display content need their own review. CAA guidance flags aerial advertising restrictions under section 82 of the Civil Aviation Act; operational authorisation does not settle those requirements.

Cardiff park event applications

Bute Park’s published process covers event applications and guidance for its individual spaces. Tree protection, event access and public use need to be built into a park proposal.

Official planning guidance

Harbour planning

Cardiff Bay proposals need review of harbour use, navigation and the land or water involved with the relevant operator. A shoreline view alone does not establish a workable launch area.

A few things you might be wondering

Planning a show
in Cardiff?

Could a Cardiff Bay event include a drone show?

Possibly, subject to the actual site review. We consider harbour activity, water edges, public access, neighbouring buildings, wildlife and weather exposure alongside airspace and landowner consent. A waterfront event booking does not itself provide a launch site or permission to use the sky.

Can you plan a drone show at my Cardiff venue?

Start by sharing the address, event date, and any venue information you have. We review the proposed launch area, audience viewing position, access, surrounding airspace, and site conditions before confirming whether a show is feasible.

Do you work outside central Cardiff?

Yes. We welcome enquiries for Penarth, Barry, Caerphilly, Newport and other surrounding communities. These are separate locations with their own landowners and event requirements. Please send the venue address so the actual airspace, launch area and audience view can be assessed.

What creative content can a U.K. show include?

We can explore shapes, colour, movement and music for an entertainment-led display. The CAA highlights restrictions on aerial advertising and other communications under section 82 of the Civil Aviation Act. Logos, QR codes and written messages need particular review; an operational authorisation alone does not establish that the content is lawful.

How much does an event in Cardiff cost?

Pricing depends on the number of drones, creative scope, event location, travel, and production requirements. Share your plans and we’ll prepare a quote for your event.

How far ahead should we get in touch?

Contact us as soon as you have a date and a possible venue. Early planning gives us time to review the location, develop the show, and coordinate the event requirements. Availability depends on your date and production needs.

What happens if the weather changes?

Weather is part of the planning and show-day review. We discuss operating conditions and contingency arrangements with you before the event; the final decision to fly depends on conditions on the day.
