Made for this moment

A Wichita point of view.
At sky scale.

The Arkansas River, downtown performance spaces, and Wichita’s aviation identity offer distinct ways to frame an event. For a community night, company milestone, fan gathering, or wedding, we turn your chosen message into formations while reviewing how the setting can support the performance.

Starbound Labs designs the show and brings the performance together. Our Spectra drones, in-house firmware, and Starbound OS software connect the creative work with the fleet and team on the ground.

Rooted in Wichita

A show with a sense of place.

Local inspiration. A story made for your audience.

A river-inspired opening

The Arkansas River can suggest flowing lines and movement for a Wichita sequence. The actual flight plan needs to account for trails, bridges, river users, and audience positions. A riverfront view does not establish permission to launch or occupy the airspace above it.

Put the people behind the idea in the story

For an aviation-business gathering, technology reveal, or company anniversary, a simple outline can develop into a product or brand message. We assess surrounding buildings, active work areas, access, and guest sightlines before treating an industrial or corporate site as suitable.

A downtown finale with a musical arc

Naftzger Park’s pavilion and Century II’s event setting offer different ways to gather an audience. A music-led concept needs coordinated stage timing and one readable viewing direction, with public circulation and a separate launch footprint included in the production plan.

A ballpark moment beyond the scoreboard

A Wind Surge fan event can build from team colors and movement into an approved mark or closing message. Riverfront Stadium proposals need operator participation and review of the actual event’s restrictions; a minor-league game should not automatically be treated as an MLB stadium TFR.

A personal celebration across the metro

For a wedding in Wichita or a private gathering toward Andover, a name, date, or shared symbol can carry the final moment. Tree cover, property boundaries, neighboring activity, crew access, and the guests’ view help determine whether the concept fits.

Aviation belongs in the first site conversation

Eisenhower National, Jabara, and McConnell serve different parts of Wichita’s aviation environment. We also assess other activity relevant to the coordinates, rather than treating a short airport list as complete. Wind, changing weather, and contingency arrangements belong in the same early review.

The airspace is part of the plan

Airports, airspace
& FAA approvals.

The right starting point is your exact venue, launch location, show height, and date.

For each proposed show, we check current FAA maps, NOTAMs, temporary flight restrictions, and the complete flight area. Nearby airports and military facilities are part of that review, alongside other local aviation activity.

Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport

Southwest Wichita

Official facility information

Check current controlled airspace, facility maps, aircraft activity, and NOTAMs for the full proposed performance volume. The process depends on coordinates and altitude, not a fixed airport approval radius.

Colonel James Jabara Airport

Northeast Wichita

Official facility information

Review general-aviation traffic and the applicable current airspace for northeast-area sites. The airport authority publishes pilot and notice resources for both Wichita airports.

McConnell Air Force Base

Wichita · military installation

Official facility information

Military flying activity and installation restrictions need review separately from venue permission and civilian airspace authorization. Include the complete flight area and event date in that assessment.

FAA airspace authorization

Where the flight area requires controlled-airspace authorization, we identify the applicable FAA process. LAANC may be available for eligible operations; airspace authorization for operations using an operational waiver follows the FAA’s designated process through FAADroneZone. An airport phone call is not a substitute for the required FAA authorization.

FAA authorization guidance

Stadiums & event restrictions

Qualifying sporting events can trigger temporary flight restrictions affecting stadiums and surrounding areas. We review the applicable notices and show timing; venue permission or a routine airspace authorization alone does not remove these restrictions.

FAA stadium guidance

Show operations & ground permissions

The show plan also determines operational waiver requirements, including a multiple-aircraft waiver where one pilot operates multiple drones. New operational waiver applications use the FAA’s Aviation Safety Hub. Venue and landowner permission, crowd separation, and any local event permits are handled alongside the aviation review.

FAA waiver guidance

Military and sensitive-site restrictions

Check current security restrictions, military airspace, and notices for the proposed flight area. Landowner approval and routine controlled-airspace authorization do not remove installation restrictions.

A few things you might be wondering

Planning a show
in Wichita?

How do Wichita’s airports affect a drone show?

The exact launch location, full performance volume, altitude, date, and show operation determine the review. Eisenhower National, Jabara, McConnell, and other local aircraft activity can present different considerations. Controlled-airspace authorization, military restrictions, operational waivers, and venue permission are separate.

Can you plan a drone show at my Wichita venue?

Start by sharing the address, event date, and any venue information you have. We review the proposed launch area, audience viewing position, access, surrounding airspace, and site conditions before confirming whether a show is feasible.

Do you work outside downtown Wichita?

We welcome enquiries for Wichita and surrounding communities. Andover and Derby are separate cities. A venue near an airport, aircraft facility, or military installation needs an exact flight-area review rather than a citywide clearance assumption. Send the venue address and event date so we can assess the actual setting.

Can the show include our logo, names, or music?

Yes. We design formations, colors, animation, and choreography around your story. Tell us which brand elements, personal details, and music matter to the event so we can discuss the creative direction.

How much does an event in Wichita cost?

Pricing depends on the number of drones, creative scope, event location, travel, and production requirements. Share your plans and we’ll prepare a quote for your event.

How far ahead should we get in touch?

Contact us as soon as you have a date and a possible venue. Early planning gives us time to review the location, develop the show, and coordinate the event requirements. Availability depends on your date and production needs.

What happens if the weather changes?

Weather is part of the planning and show-day review. We discuss operating conditions and contingency arrangements with you before the event; the final decision to fly depends on conditions on the day.
